Abstract: Guava trees exhibit high variability in pulp color, resulting from the differential accumulation
of carotenoids and anthocyanins. This study evaluated progenies from the crosses ‘Paluma’ ×
‘Purple Guava’ (PR), ‘Pedro Sato’ × ‘Purple Guava’ (PSR), and ‘Pedro Sato’ × ‘Paluma’ (PSP), aiming to estimate genetic parameters, correlations, and direct effects associated with lycopene and anthocyanin content in fruit pulp. The experiment was conducted at Embrapa Semiárido, involving 225 progenies for lycopene and 152 progenies for anthocyanins, evaluated over three growing seasons, along with physical and chemical attributes of the fruits. Variance and heritability estimates revealed high genetic diversity and genetic control for lycopene. Repeatability indicated temporal stability of the pigments, supporting early selection. Phenotypic correlations showed a positive association between lycopene and β-carotene, and negative correlations between lycopene, soluble solids, and vitamin C, suggesting metabolic divergence between lipophilic and water-soluble compounds. Anthocyanins showed predominantly negative correlations with structural characteristics of the fruit, especially in crosses with ‘Purple Guava’. Transgressive segregants for lycopene (6.12 mg 100 g⁻¹) and anthocyanins (26.75 mg 100 g⁻¹) showed high selection potential. Path analysis identified βcarotene as the main direct determinant of lycopene and demonstrated that structural attributes directly influence anthocyanins, while soluble solids and vitamin C had inconsistent effects. The results confirm relevant genetic variability and identify auxiliary traits for indirect selection, reinforcing the potential for developing cultivars with higher levels of bioactive pigments and functional value.

Abstract: Brazil is currently the world leader in cotton exports, a feat achieved through
technological advancements and the significant investment made in Bahia in recent years,
which is also the second-largest cotton exporter in the country. The primary pest affecting
cotton is the cotton boll weevil, whose entire biological cycle occurs within the cotton's
reproductive structures, directly impacting product quality and causing losses for farmers.
During the off-season, the remaining cotton crops are destroyed, leading to the dispersion of
the boll weevil into the native forests surrounding the agricultural fields. This study aimed
to inventory the plants that are crucial for the survival of the cotton boll weevil during the
off-season and crop rotation. For this, a pheromone trap was used in three farms: one located
in the municipality of Luís Eduardo Magalhães (sample LEM) and two in São Desidério
(samples SDO1 and SDO 2), in order to establish the boll weevil’s feeding ecology. By
recovering pollen grains from the boll weevil’s digestive tract, it was possible to identify 98
pollen types, with 42 types exclusive to the SDO2 farm, 12 types exclusive to LEM, and five
types exclusive to the São Desidério 1 farm. During the rotation period, 26 pollen types were
identified, with 18 types exclusive to SDO2 and five to SDO1. The identified pollen types
suggest a stronger preference for polliniferous plants, which may indicate the importance of
proteins in the boll weevil’s survival during the off-season. Studying the feeding ecology of
the boll weevil can contribute to environmental control strategies, as it provides data on
migration, dispersion, and control of volunteer plants, helping to reduce the boll weevil's
impact on the next cotton harvest.

(re)significaciones negras y ancestrales.

Abstract: Schools play a central role in human development and in promoting adolescents’ mental health. This study aimed to analyze the perceptions and experiences of vocational high school students regarding an educational intervention program focused on self-care in health. It is an intervention-research study, with a qualitative orientation and complementary use of descriptive quantitative data, conducted at the Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia Baiano, campus Governador Mangabeira, with first-year students of integrated technical courses. A total of 36 students participated, of whom 25 were considered eligible according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. The group was composed mainly of Black and Brown youth, aged 15 to 16, predominantly female (84%), from public schools and rural areas, evidencing socioeconomic vulnerability, with most reporting a per capita income below the minimum wage. A high prevalence of anxiety symptoms was observed, along with a low proportion of psychological follow-up, revealing a gap between need and access to care. The interventions were carried out in workshop format, organized into three sessions: reflection on dimensions of self-care, strategies for coping and resilience, and a space for evaluation and exchange of perceptions. Students recognized self-care as a multifaceted practice, encompassing physical, psychological, spiritual, and social dimensions, while also pointing out difficulties and strategies for overcoming them. The workshops were positively evaluated, highlighting feelings of support, lightness, and enthusiasm, improved understanding of self-care, and intentions to adopt healthier habits, with suggestions to expand topics such as self-esteem, emotional intelligence, and healthy use of social media. It is concluded that the educational program “SelfCare Trail: Inner Bloom” fostered reflection, strengthened perceptions, and encouraged reports of incorporating self-care practices among students. As a technical product of the research, the “Self-Care Trail Guide: Inner Bloom – Educational program on self-care for the promotion of mental health” was developed, bringing together practices, reflections, and tools that may serve as a reference for future initiatives. This material reinforces the relevance of the proposal and expands its potential for continuity and replication in different school contexts, contributing to the consolidation of self-care as a daily and sustainable practice, while promoting well-being and youth protagonism.
