Conversando sobre meio ambiente com crianças da comunidade quilombola de Candeal II

Abstract

The present work had the general objective: to understand the environmental knowledge that is transmitted by children from the quilombola community of Candeal II and, based on that, specifically: (I) To describe the cultural traits of the community and its relationship with environmental themes; (II) investigate the forms used in the Community of Candeal II for the transmission of traditional knowledge related to the environment; (III) Identify, through conversations and field activities, environmental knowledge. For this, conversation was used as a tool for data production, in addition to drawings and photographs, considering the disengagement and Afro-Brazilian civilizing values, in particular: orality, circularity, memory and ancestry. The research was carried out at the Joaquim Pereira dos Santos Municipal School, with children from the 4th year of elementary school I. The school is located in the rural area of the quilombola community of Candeal II, District of Matinha, in the city of Feira de Santana (BA). With this, the research was based on decolonial research and intercultural dialogue. As a result, we can mention the direct relationship that residents of the community have with the environment, such as planting and growing food such as cassava, beans, corn and fruits, which are sold for family support or personal consumption. In addition, the children's knowledge and knowledge about the relationship with nature and biodiversity is highlighted, thus producing the biocultural memory. It was possible to observe that this knowledge is transmitted through the generations, thus perpetuating the knowledge of the ancestors, characterizing and forming the identity of the community.
