The military police officer works in a social and professional context with many peculiarities. His work routine is permeated by high stress, obligations, uncertainties and high demand. The performance in ostensible policing, subjects the professional to the constitutional duty of fighting crime and the risk to his own life in favor of the collectivity. This work dynamic predisposes this professional to the development of work-related diseases such as Burnout Syndrome. This study aimed to estimate the prevalence and investigate the factors associated with Burnout Syndrome in military police officers from Feira de Santana, Bahia. An exploratory cross-sectional epidemiological study was carried out. A self-administered, validated and anonymous instrument was used, containing: general identification questions and general information about the work; the Mini Sleep Questionnaire (Mini-Sleep); the Job Content Questionnaire (JCQ); questions about life habits and the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI-HSS) used to identify Burnout Syndrome. The population consisted of 157 male and female police officers, 115 of whom were assigned to the 65th Independent Military Police Company and 42 to the George Américo Community Security Base, which represented 72% and 84% of the eligible population, respectively. The MBI result indicated a prevalence of Burnout Syndrome of 13.5% for the 65th CIPM and 9.5% for the BCS-GA. The variables male gender, age equal to or less than 39 years old, having a partner, having children, working in an operational activity, working time equal to or less than 15 years, having sleep problems and a high demand situation in the JCQ were associated with o Burnout Syndrome in the 65th CIPM and the variables age over 39 years old, working time over 15 years, having sleep problems and the high demand situation in the JCQ, were associated with the Burnout Syndrome in the BCSGA. Police officers who worked in operational activities and were privates had a strong association with burnout, regardless of the unit they belonged to. Having a university degree, having a partner, unlike other professions, constitutes a risk for burnout. The results revealed a high prevalence of Burnout Syndrome among military police officers and pointed out differences in the associated variables between the Police Units studied. It is hoped that the results of this study can contribute to greater attention to the working and health conditions of military police officers and, as a consequence, to a better provision of Public Security services in the State of Bahia.eng
