Damas da Sociedade: caridade, política e lazer entre mulheres de elite de Itabuna (1924-1962)

Abstract

The main objective of this work is to understand the different productions of female’s identity in Itabuna, south of the Bahia, between the 1924 and 1962. The intention is to observe how was formed this identities from of the social practices and of the politics interferences of the elite’s women in the society of Itabuna at the period marked by the more emphatic process of intervention of the publics powers in the urban scenario and by changing in the customs of the elites, based in the ideas of progress and civility who passed to influence the discourse and the action of social segment dominance. We are interested in to analyze the different expressions of female’s identity created by dominance social sector and to see if were assumed or rejected by the women richest. To observe the forms who that women used of the ladies charity condition to insert themselves in the institutional politics, in the press and as liberal professions. In this sense, it’s important to recuperate the discourses of the elites, especially of the newspapers, about the female’s behavior discipline at the period whose pattern of behavior it were adequate to progress ideal, from 1930’s until 1960’s.
